The Blessings of 2017

It’s the first day of 2018 and in many ways I am glad. 2017 proved to be an interesting and challenging year, many tears where shed, many sleepless nights and many moments of utter despair and they all happened in a time frame of 90 days after Hurricane Maria battered my homeland {Puerto Rico}. Although I stayed silent through it all, not wanting to put my pain and thoughts over others that suffered more, who encountered great loss and pain and who truly deserved to be heard, I do want to look back now with grace. While it has been a time of great learning, it has also been a time of blessings. I have seen people come together, I have seen their strength, resilience and hunger for change. In times of sorrow I have also seen smiles and laughter and families and friends who have come together to make it through this difficult time together. Without a doubt I have seen the heart of Puerto Ricans after devastation and my peoples courage inspires me to be the best version of myself every single day.

I want to start this year by saying thank you to everyone who has supported our Island, to my clients who reached out through this time and offered support and encouragement. I realized how incredible blessed I am and I want to celebrate each and every one of you for being who you are.

Together we will rise…stronger than ever. I am the “diaspora” but I will never stop being Puerto Rican.
